#8 - Flickr!

So, I've been avoiding this one too. I've seen it. Looked at photos on it. Our Library Assistant for Adult Services set up an account for us here at work and we post photos of our bulletin boards. (Actually, she posts the photos - I look.) It's not that I don't think I can do it. It's not that hard. It just all comes down to time for me - both at work and at home. What I have found I use Flickr! most for at work is find bulletin board ideas. That has been very successful for us.

It was easy enough for me to set up an account and post some pictures. My husband and I decided to do family Christmas photos this year and I couldn't resist having some taken of Sebastian alone now that he's sitting up by himself. He's just adorable!

#7 - So many feeds... so little time

Okay. So I tried out Technorati, the Bloglines Search Tool, and the Google Blog Search. They're all fine. My problem is with finding quality over quantity. I saw many, many blogs that looked interesting, but I don't have the time to check 30 blogs everyday even using a reader like bloglines. I feel like I need to choose very carefully which blogs I want to invest time in.

I much prefer stumbling onto blogs through other methods. Following a link from a website I enjoy or a Blog I already read have both led to great blogs.

I'm not sure I really like the reader anyway. Being a visual person, part of the experience of a blog for me is the atmosphere of the website. I don't feel like I am experiencing the bells and whistles using the reader. Perhaps I just need to become accustomed.

#6 - Bloglines and RSS

While I've known about RSS for some time now, I've been avoiding it completely as I've been afraid of its potential for time spending. Bloglines could definitely be useful in saving a little time, but there are soooo many interesting blogs out there... I'm wary of doing #7! I can see I'll have to choose carefully.

On a different note, I don't like the visual aspects of bloglines. (In fact I think it is ugly.) I also find it hard to read and my eyes jump around the page a lot. Perhaps I need to check out another reader.

Life Long Learning

I've always considered myself a lifelong learner. In fact, I think it's one of the reasons I became a librarian in the first place. I never enjoyed traditional methods of learning such as lecture in a classroom, but I've always like facts, information and hands-on learning. (In fact, I can remember reading the encyclopedia as a child because I'd run out of library books.) In the library I have the opportunity to learn every day. Whether it's by necessity or just because a customer asked an interesting question, I have the tools to pursue the answer.

Looking over the 7 1/2 habits of the life long learner, I don't feel that any specific one will be hard for me. I knew immediately that 'Play' would be the easiest. In fact, I'll have to be careful to not get carried away and spend too much time 'playing'.
